Last week, Reality Run spent time in Olympic Valley for Broken Arrow Skyrace and TrailCon. It was a week that brought together the full force of trail running: the effort, the energy, the community, the industry, and the mountain itself.
There are events that feel like races.
Broken Arrow feels like a gathering
From the moment runners packed into the start area, you could feel the charge. Vests full. Bottles loaded. Poles ready. Quiet nerves. Loud cowbells. Friends scanning the crowd. Crews making final checks. Everyone standing at the base of something bigger than themselves.
Then the race moved upward.
Onto ridgelines. Across exposed terrain. Through heat, dust, altitude, and effort. Up the kind of climbs where you stop thinking about pace and start thinking only about the next step. The kind of terrain that strips everything down to something honest.
The mountain does not care what you planned
That is what makes trail running different.
The mountain does not care what you planned. It does not care how fit you felt that morning. It gives you the climb, the conditions, the exposure, the fatigue, and the choice to keep moving.
Watching athletes move through Broken Arrow was a reminder of why this sport matters. Not just because of the performances at the front, although those are incredible. But because of the full field. The people grinding through the same terrain at different speeds, with different goals, different stories, and the same shared commitment to stay in it.
That is the part that sticks.
The effort is visible everywhere
In the runner gripping the cable near the top. In the line of athletes working their way across the ridge. In the crowd pressed into the village waiting for the race to unfold. In the faces at the finish. In the quiet moments after, when the body is cooked but the spirit feels wide awake.
Born of the trails, built for the terrain of life
For Reality Run, weeks like this are fuel.
We say we are born of the trails and built for the terrain of life because the trail has always felt like the clearest expression of the endurance mindset. There are smooth sections. There are brutal climbs. There are views that stop you in your tracks. There are moments when things get uncomfortable and you find out what is actually there.
That mindset is what we are building around.
TrailCon and the bigger picture
TrailCon added another layer to the week.
After the race energy, the conversation shifted toward the bigger picture: the state of trail running, where the sport is headed, and how the people building within it can help it grow without losing the soul that made it special in the first place.
Those conversations matter.
Because trail running is growing. More people are finding the sport. More brands are entering the space. More events, media platforms, retailers, athletes, and communities are shaping what comes next.
Grow with intention
The responsibility is to grow with intention. To protect the community. To honor the terrain. To support the people doing the work. To create products and stories that feel connected to the actual experience, not just the aesthetic of it.
That is where Reality Run wants to live. Not outside the sport looking in. Inside the miles. Inside the conversations. Inside the community. Listening, learning, building, and showing up with purpose.
This is bigger than gear
We left Olympic Valley inspired by the athletes, humbled by the mountain, and grateful for every conversation that happened throughout the week. Broken Arrow reminded us what the trail asks of people. TrailCon reminded us what the sport is asking of the people building around it.
Both came back to the same truth.
This is bigger than gear.
It is about the climb. The community. The mindset. The willingness to keep moving when the terrain changes.
That is Reality Run.
And we are just getting started.
